Pastor Jovan T. Davis, M.Div
Pastor Jovan Troy Davis is a spirit filled young man who was nurtured in a single-parent home in the city of Passaic, New Jersey, under the guidance of a God-fearing grandmother. As one of three siblings exposed to the gospel of grace and mercy, it was at the tender age of eight that Pastor Davis received Jesus as his Lord and Personal Savior and was set apart for the work of the ministry at the age of twelve.
Growing up in the arts, he spent his early years singing in various gospel groups and choirs, choreographing for different dance ministries, playwriting, and acting in several Off-Broadway plays. It wasn’t until 1999, however, that he received a divine unction to preach God’s Word to an international community of believers and non-believers, prophesying truth, love, and wisdom. Serving under the leadership and direction of Pastor Dolly M. Johnson of the Passaic Christian Fellowship Church, Pastor Davis was actively involved in ministry as a deacon, youth and worship leader. In 2002, while attending Lincoln University, Pastor Davis was formally licensed as a minister of the gospel, elected as Student Government Association President, served as a member of Lincoln University’s Board of Trustees, voted Mr. Lincoln University, founded the Men of Purpose campus ministry, and served as one of the University’s Student Ministers.
Subsequently, in 2005, under the direct tutelage and spiritual direction from his father in the ministry, Dr. C. Matthew Hudson, Jr. and the historic St. Paul’s Baptist Church of Philadelphia, PA; Pastor Davis was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel. During his tenure at St. Paul’s, Pastor Davis served as the Minister of Administration & Finance, Minister of the Arts, Youth Minister and a founding board member of the St. Paul’s Urban Harvest Ventures, Inc. In 2006, Pastor Davis served as the Pastor to the Youth at the distinguished Matthews Memorial Baptist Church, Inc. in Washington, DC. There he successfully motivated the young people to become actively involved in the church and trained them extensively for leadership. After being encouraged by his father in the ministry to pursue greater achievements, Pastor Davis went on to serve as the Executive Director of the St. Paul’s Urban Harvest Ventures, Inc., a non-profit Community Development Corporation in the city of Philadelphia.
As a firm believer in education, Pastor Davis received University Honors from Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, the first Historically Black College and University, were he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. After graduating from Lincoln University, he received his Master’s degree in Divinity from Palmer Theological Seminary, formerly known as Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Also, Pastor Davis graduated from the University of the Virgin Islands Summer Global Leadership Academy, obtained master level credits in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College of Maryland, and received level two Clinical Pastoral Education credentials. Pastor Davis’ is presently a Doctorate of Ministry candidate at Western Theological Seminary of Holland, Michigan.
Prior to accepting the call to serve the people of Ebenezer and the Englewood, NJ community in October of 2011, Pastor Davis served as the Senior Pastor of the True Light Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan from 2007 to 2011. During his service there, he was instrumental in revitalizing a once decaying church, established a 501c3 Corporation known as Promise of Hope, Inc., in which he served as the Executive Director, an online travel agency, a Housing and Economic Development Initiative, True Light Commons Project, Schools of Hope After School Program, Children’s Church, and a Community Task Force, just to name a few. Truly, Pastor Davis is a gifted new generation preacher.
In addition to these many aforementioned accomplishments, Pastor Davis acknowledges that two of his greatest achievements were being joined in holy matrimony on August 8, 2008 to his lovely, God-fearing wife, Jamila Harley-Davis, a native of Philadelphia, PA and the birth of his baby girl, Jordyn Christina Davis and his twin boys, Jayden Christopher and Joshua Caleb.
